Space Marines are on pre-order, so let's set our sights on the next army said to be in the works: Tyranids.

That's right, rumors of the chitinous horde haven't stopped yet, so let's dig in and see what the Hive Mind has been talking about. As typical with rumors, we don't have any images or verified leaks just yet so take with salt and don't burn any messengers, computers or Bothans. We need to feed the Hive Mind.

As you read through this you'll see some things labeled "Zion's Speculation". These are just my little jabs at the rumor and me sharing my thoughts. They don't have any source, they're just my thoughts on what the rumor might be hinting at.

Well enough blather, let's see what the horde has in store!

Codex Information

Author:
State: November 2013 or January 2014 (there is a lot of contention at the moment about this)

General Information

  • None

New Codex Rules

  • Altered FOC allows you to gain +1 Elite, +2 Troops, +1 Fast Attack +1 Heavy Support when you purchase a 3rd HQ Slot. (Zion's Speculation: Allies within the same codex for the price of 3 HQs total perhaps? Some sources say they're just normal allies instead.)
  • Only an HQ from the primary detachment may be chosen as the army's Warlord.
  • Two psychic powers lists: Devastation and Adaptation (Zion's Speculation: Sounds a bit like the two lists of powers in the Eldar Codex. My bet is that there will be restrictions on who can take things from which list.)
  • Devastation's Primaris: Warp Blast; Adaptation's Primaris: Onslaught (similar to Battle Focus)
  • All Tyranid Psychic Powers may be used with 1 or 2 Warp Charges, using more Warp Charges increases the effect
  • Psychic ability is "a lot worse than it is now" (Zion's Speculation: Not every Tyranid gets access to rulebook powers anymore)
  • Hive Fleets now have different rules (think Chapter Tactics from Codex: Space Marines).
  • The allied detachment may be a different hive fleet (it doesn't count as a different Hive Fleet, just similar evolutionary strains).
  • Army wide FOC changes based on Hive Tyrant. Wings allow you to take Gargoyles as your compulsory Troops (max 2), Bonded Carapace lets Carnifexes be Elites and Heavy Supports (though there is a points cap on how much those Elite 'Fexes can cost). (Zion's Speculation: That'll be Armoured Shell instead of Bonded Carapace)
  • Warriors may be taken as Sergeant Style upgrades for Gaunts and Gargoyles. They get the same biomorphs as the rest of the unit and are not attached like Wolf Guard.
  • Ravenous Advance: Units with this rule may run and assault in the same turn
  • The Ground Trembles: All Mounstrous creatures do D3 Hammer of Wrath hits.

Wargear/Biomorphs:

  • "Really cool" adapatations for Skyfire
  • Melee biomorphs contribute to models ranged ability (Zion's Speculation: I'm guessing this is like Toxin Sacs working for both or a +1S upgrade making the shots stronger)
  • Ranged biomorphs boost model's melee abilities.
  • Lash Whip now give -4I
  • Bone Sword: "challenge weapon"
  • Implant Attack: "challenge weapon"
  • Regeneration: 5+ to regain wound at end of turn
  • Alpha Regeneration: 4+ to regain wound at end of turn
