Hi Scscofield here with the Batrep of a game I played on Sunday against the local Eldar player, after a few months of not playing 40k at all.  We did 1850 lists and his list was quite strong, while my list was not so.   I blame being more focused on playing Warmachine lately and not really thinking all that hard as to what to take beyond 'oh that might be fun'

We did random choice for both the mission type and deployment type and had planned to do mysterious objectives but forgot to do so during the game.

Mission type turned out to be Crusade with a result of 3 objectives and the deployment type was Hammer and Anvil, and Night Fight was in effect turn 1.

Needless to say his list is quite strong and mine is horrible, the resulting game amplified this fact.

Deployment

Eldar won deployment choice and in turn objective placement of 2 objectives.   He deployed in mass as seen above with the Dire Avengers in their Wave Serpent and everything on the board.  Both Spirtseers were attached to the Wraithblades unit.

Space Wolf deployment had my one objective in the back corner with a GH Rhino, the ADL with the CML WGP, PA RP, and LF inside of it in the center of the board on delpoyment edge, the two WLs in one unit with the TWC and the other GH Rhino hiding in some ruins to the side.   The TDA RP and the 4 WGP were waiting to come down in their DP.

The two small minis on the hilltop in the middle are Chooser of the Slain markers.  The silver washers are the objectives.

Turn 1
I rolled to Seize the Initiative and succeeded in doing so!

I dropped my pod down into the middle of his stuff with the intention of doing Jaws along the line drawn above.   It hit all of his HQ's and one Wraithlord.   I also had the 4 TDA WGP rapid fire their Combi-Plasma into the Wraithlord.   End result of this was one wound remaining on the Wraithlord and no losses to Jaws.   Spiffy amazing tactic failure!  I had also advanced the cav unit and the non objective holding GH unit during movement.  The ADL RP used Prescience to give rerolls and then I split the fire from the LF to shoot at the Wraithguard and the Warp Spiders.   End result of all this shooting was one dead Wraithblade, two dead Warp Spiders and two dead Wraithguards.
The Eldar player then started his turn, his attempts to cast buffs with the Spiritseers were denied by the TDA RP's Rune Stave but the Wraithseer did manage to get FNP off on itself.   He then disembarked his Dire Avengers into the area behind the ruins.  He moved the Nitespinner back and advanced the other units into positions to fire on both the DP Terminators and the TWC.   The Swooping Hawks performed their Skyleap into Ongoing Reserves.
Eldar shooting ended up with one wound on a TWC and all 4 TDA WGP dead, the Warp Spiders then did Battle Focus and but only had a low run score ending up with them on the other side of the hill.    He then attempted to assault the TWC with the Wraithseer and Wraithblades.  These both failed to on assault rolls.   The Wraithlords assaulted the Drop Pod and TDA Rune Priest, resulting in a exploded DP and a dead RP.  First Blood goes to the Eldar.

Turn 2

I did not have very many targets to shoot at due to the way the terrain had been placed.   What I did have was one single shot at the Nitespinner and a Spiritseer + 1 Wraithblade I could focus fire.  So I cast Prescience again and then decided to get fancy with my Cav unit.   I split the SotB WL off from the group and moved him to position for a assualt on the Wraithseer.   I then moved the remaining Cav up onto the hilltop the Warp Spiders just vacated to line up for a charge against them.

Shooting resulted in one dead Wraithblade, one dead Spiritseer and a vechile damage result of 1 on the Nitespinner which pretty much negated it's shooting on this turn due to only being able to fire snapshots.  I then charged the Wraithseer and Warp Spiders.
End result is one dead TWC due to Overwatch, the SotWB WL having 4 extra attacks next assault and 2 wounds on the Wraithseer.

Eldar turn 2 started and the Swooping Hawks came down onto the board from Ongoing Reserves.   The Nitespinner advanced forward with a flat out move and the Wraithblades moved into position to charge the Wraithseer/SotB WL combat.  During the move the Spiritseer healed one point of damage on the Wraithseer.

Swooping Hawks combined with a Wave Serpent field shot resulted in the majority of the LF unit including the Squad Ldr and the CML WGP dead.  The last TWC also was shot off the board leaving the SotWB WL hanging out in the open.
Swooping Hawks then did their Battle Focus run and moved further back putting ruins between them and the remaining LF + RP.

The Wraithblades assualted the combat already in progress.   I challenged the Wraithseer and it declined to accept.   This left me open to attacks from the Wraithblades but removed the Wraithseer's attacks from the mix  End result of this combat was no wounds on either side.  The Wraithseer made some insane saves during this game, something along the lines of 5 or 6 FNP saves along with Invul saves.  My WL kept hitting him, he just couldn't get a wound to stick on the guy.

Turn 3
On the start of turn three I advanced my SotWB WL towards the Nitespinner and moved the Rhino up to the spot it had just left.   The RP again cast Prescience and the shooting from him using the Quad Cannon resulted in a Precision Shot that I placed on the Sun Rifle wielding Exarch.   The Exarch failed his LoS and died and the two ML Frag blasts resulted in a couple more SH deaths.  The remaining SH fail their Ldr check and run.  The SotWB then charges the Nitespinner, chooses reroll to hits with his Wolf Claws and ends up wrecking the Nitespinner.  The Wraithseer is again challenged and again declines.  The SotB WL took 2 wounds from the Wraithblades and the Wraithseer made some more annoying FNP saves.

Eldar turn 3 starts with a regroup/rally of the SH and the Wraithlords moving into position to take shots at the SotWB WL.   It is at this point I start mentally berating myself because I forgot to give him a Invul save of any sort.  The Wave Serpent also moves up onto the what turned out to be quite popular hilltop to be in firing position at the Rhino.  During this time the Spiritseer heals the last wound off the Wraithseer.
End result of shooting is a wrecked Rhino and GH in the spot between the hill side and the woods.  The SotWB WL was turned into a greasespot with Bright Lances during this phase also.  In the following assault phase the SotB WL died without managing to wound the Wraithseer (3 FNP rolls made in this round!)  Slay the Warlord goes to Eldar.

Turn 4
Turn 4 starts with me having one rhino of GH in the back field, 2 ML LF with a RP behind the ADL and 10 GH huddled by a wrecked Rhino staring down a Wave Serpent, full health Wraithseer, and  Wraith Blade unit that had 2+ AV due to Protect.   I go to cast Prescience with the RP and roll box cars taking a wound on the RP.   With this I call the game, it was a lost cause.

Conclusions
First off, the list I fielded was horrible in regards to what it was facing.   It just did not have enough of anything really to deal effectivly with the army I faced.   This coupled with the fact I was starting behind due to Hammer and Anvil and the Eldar player having pretty much two objectives from the get go meant I had to advance into the teeth of a high Str/ High AP, High Toughness army.   Going for the Hail Mary DP Jaws against high Initiative models was also a pretty horrid idea.  So my challenge from here is to make a list that can give the Eldar player a run for his money instead of just playing random crap for the hell of it.

Eldar Player's Conclusion
Too much of this game was decided in the list building phase.  With the new Eldar codex and my love of wraith units leading to lots of list construction in my off-time.  This list is very close to what I’d consider an optimized list.  Not kind to throw it in a casual game but I get so few games in that I wanted to play with all my shiny toys! My opponent was more casual and thought up a random list on the spot without really considering the 3 T8 monstrous creatures I’d throw at him.  It was further compounded by getting to deploy first and putting two objectives close to my deployment zone.   My list was designed to go take and hold a mid-field objective so I had a pretty easy go of it.  Finally, I made a crazy amount of 5+ FNP saves on my Wraithseer.  Something like 12 FNP saves out of 15.  His str 10 thunder hammer should have eaten through my Wraithseer but with the FNP saves and healing the Wraithseer stuck around.

What would the readers field to take on this army?
